Who is eligible for the new Medi-Cal expansion?
All individuals age 50 and over are already eligible. As of January 1, 2024 all adults age 26-49 who are income-eligible (138% of the federal poverty line) and live in California are eligible for full scope Medi-Cal. As of Jan 1, 2024 immigration status will no longer a requirement for full-scope Medi-Cal.
When should I apply to get full-scope Medi-Cal?
As soon as possible! The sooner you apply the sooner you may access health benefits.
How do I apply for full-scope Medi-Cal in San Diego?
If you qualified for limited or “emergency” Medi-Cal and you may have been automatically enrolled in full-scope Medi-Cal on Jan 1st. If not, you can apply online at https://benefitscal.com or via phone at 2-1-1 or 866-2262-9881. You can also apply in-person at any San Diego Family Resource Center. The Chula Vista in-person site to register is located at 690 Oxford St Ste E, Chula Vista, CA 91911 (behind the Wal-Mart on Broadway and Palomar St. - see map below) and is open from Monday - Friday 7am - 5pm.
Will applying for Emergency Medi-Cal affect my immigration status?
No. Medi-Cal is not considered a “public charge” and does not affect immigration status changes in the future. You should feel comfortable receiving the medical care you deserve.
